Letter from Rebecca – The Why Behind EquiTecs

Hey EquiTecs community,

Let’s skip the corporate PR and get straight to the truth. This is Rebecca, and if you know me, you know I don’t do fluff. I do horses, science, and saying the quiet part out loud—even when it’s messy.

So here’s the real story: I never set out to become an expert in trademarks or federal law. But life (and one very expensive legal battle) had other plans. When I bought the company, I bought it lock, stock, and barrel—including the goodwill and intangible assets (which, by definition, is the trademark). The previous owner attempted to carve out the trademark in order to continue collecting royalties and controlling me. I have since found out through the legal process that this does not follow federal law. When a company’s goodwill and intangible assets (the trademark) are sold, the previous owner no longer has any rights to the trademark. Unfortunately, I didn’t know that at the time, so years of being controlled led to the erosion of the company. I trusted someone I shouldn’t have, and that mistake nearly destroyed Equi-Tape. What followed was years of fighting to protect my work, my vision, and this community—from a legal system that was used as a weapon against me. I had to confront fear, stand up to a bully, and defend my rights (and yours). It’s been a war, and make no mistake: I have scars. But I wear them proudly, because they’re proof that I—and we—are still standing.

Why walk away from Equi-Tape? Because the truth matters. The science matters. Equi-Tape lost its way through too many hands and too much ego, and the message got diluted. Other companies are teaching outdated, unproven techniques. I want to be free to innovate, to change when the science says so, and to be transparent—even when it’s uncomfortable. EquiTecs is built on truth, backed by science, and driven by a commitment to the horse above all else. No more hiding. No more fear. Just integrity, evidence, and relentless improvement.

And the changes? They’re not just skin-deep. New protocols, new tape (engineered for horses, not adapted from humans), a new education platform, better pricing, more CEUs, affiliate opportunities, global distribution, CE and FDA approvals—the works. But what hasn’t changed is the heart of this business: me, Jen, and Pam. Same leadership, same obsession with getting it right, same commitment to you and your horses.
