Application: What, Why, and How (Neck/Front Limb Extension)
- What: Targets the brachiocephalicus and transversus neck muscles to improve stride length, shoulder/scapular freedom, lateral flexion, and overall movement
- Why: Directional recoil from tape stimulates muscle spindle fibers and mechanoreceptors, increasing muscle activation and range of motion—especially effective for horses with short/choppy stride or limited neck mobility
- How: Use EquiTecs 2-way stretch tape (2" or 3"), single strip, up to 20% stretch (less is more). Start at muscle origin (near ear), extend to insertion (near pectoralis). Apply with horse’s neck “on stretch”—ask horse to bend away during application. Leave tape on until recoil is lost (typically 1–2 weeks); reapply as needed. Full demo included in course
Unique Clinical Notes
- Application is only effective if both origin and insertion are covered
- Most common mistakes: overstretching, missing origin/insertion, improper prep (neck is oily—clean well)
- Mild stretch only; check for overstretch by flexing neck after application
- Mechanism: Activation occurs once horse is exercised (“oxygen debt”); not just standing still
- Fascia note: Rotate fascia line work monthly for best results
Common Questions Answered
- How do I access? Instantly via the EquiTecs App on any device. Lifetime access included.
- What do I need? EquiTecs 2-way stretch tape (sold separately), clean/dry neck, and 27 minutes.
- How does it work? Tape stimulates neck muscle activation, improving stride and movement quality.
- Is it safe? Yes—tape is engineered for horse hair and designed to “give way” if misapplied. Do not tape over wounds, swelling, or skin irritation.
Markers of Success
- Improved stride length and reach
- More freedom through shoulder and forelimb
- Better lateral flexion and head/neck movement
- Increased muscle tone/engagement
- Tape stays secure (no bunching or peeling)
