Stifle support is a biomechanics taping stability application for horses that can’t reliably hold the joint under load. Using EquiTecs 4‑Way Stretch Tape, this protocol ensures reproducible stifle stability during rehab, return to work, and performance loading. It is the go-to solution for stifle instability patterns, compensatory hind-end overload, and “sticky/locking” stifle tendencies, helping horses move safely while conditioning catches up.

45-Minute Digital Course — Lifetime Access via EquiTecs App

  • What it is: Step-by-step protocol for stifle joint stabilization and rehab—ideal for injury recovery, muscle function support, and prevention.
  • What you get: Instant, on-demand video instruction + application demo.
  • How it works: Apply EquiTecs 4-way tape (2" and 3", 25–50% stretch, long anchors, double layer for large joints), follow clinical guidelines.
  • Access: Anytime, on any device. Lifetime included.

Course Overview

EquiTecs EFT Stifle Support Application

A 45-minute, on-demand digital course teaching the Equine Functional Taping (EFT) protocol for stifle joint stabilization and rehabilitation. Includes a clinical lecture and application demo. Instantly accessible via the EquiTecs App (Apple, Google, and web). Lifetime access included.

EquiTecs EFT stifle support course for biomechanical joint stability and soft tissue injury recovery.

What You'll Learn:

  • How to support and stabilize the stifle joint during injury rehab
  • The importance of muscle conditioning for full recovery
  • Tape selection and application for optimal support
  • How to combine support with circulation and muscle activation applications
  • Markers of success and troubleshooting

What this stifle support application does (and doesn’t do)

  • Does: Provide a step-by-step stifle support plan designed for stability under real movement and load.
  • Does: Help reduce overload on soft tissue by creating a mechanical bridge while rehab and conditioning do their job.
  • Does: Teach safe stretch limits, anchor placement, and troubleshooting so support is consistent and predictable.
  • Doesn’t: Replace diagnosis for unresolved lameness, meniscal/ligament injury suspicion, or cases needing imaging.
  • Doesn’t: Replace conditioning—support is most effective when paired with a progressive strength and movement plan.

What you need for stifle support (the correct tool matters)

Who this is for

For horse owners and professionals managing stifle instability and hind-end overload—rehab cases, chronic compensation patterns, and performance horses where the stifle needs support to move safely while soft tissue heals and strength is rebuilt.

  • Rehab + return-to-work phases
  • Horses that struggle to stabilize the stifle under load
  • Performance demands that overload the hind end
  • Chronic compensation patterns involving the stifle/hip/pelvis chain

Application: What & Why (Stifle Support)

  • What: Targets the stifle joint for stabilization, injury recovery, and muscle function support
  • Why: Stifle injuries often result from underconditioned muscles; taping provides joint support and assists muscle function during healing

Unique Clinical Notes

  • Most common stifle injuries: patellar ligament injuries, locking stifle (upward patellar fixation), ligament-related issues
  • Full rehab requires muscle conditioning—focus on tensor fascia latae, biceps femoris, semitendinosus, semimembranosus
  • Add circulation application alongside support taping to speed healing
  • For more rigidity, add another tape layer rather than increasing stretch
  • Always check for referred pain—evaluate hock, fetlock, back whenever stifle issues arise
  • For ligament tears >30%, use biomechanics application + controlled rehab

Markers of Success

  • Increased stability and improved lameness
  • Smoother, more fluid hind-leg movement
  • Greater push from behind
  • Parasympathetic response (licking, chewing, yawning, deep breathing)
  • Noticeable pain relief
  • Tape stays secure (no bunching or peeling)

FAQ

Do I need 4‑way tape for stifle support?

Yes. Stifle support is a structural stability goal, and 4‑way multidirectional stretch is engineered for biomechanics taping under load.

Is this safe?

Yes—safety is one of the reasons this modality exists. Use the correct tape type (4‑way), follow the stretch limits and anchor rules, and don’t improvise.

Will this fix a locking stifle?

It can help—because locking is usually a soft-tissue and control problem, not a “broken joint” problem. In many horses (especially younger horses and during growth or hormone shifts), the patellar ligament can be a little looser and the system relies on the hind-end muscles—especially the glutes—to rock the limb back and help the stifle unlock smoothly. This support protocol helps by stabilizing the stifle while you condition the surrounding soft tissue to do its job correctly. In other words: support first, then strengthen.

How long should stifle support tape stay on?

Follow the protocol taught in the application. Wear time depends on workload, conditions, and how the tape edges and recoil are holding.

Does this replace veterinary rehab?

No. It’s a support tool that can make rehab safer and more effective, but it doesn’t replace diagnosis, imaging, or a rehab plan.

How do I access?

Instantly via the EquiTecs App on any device. Lifetime access included.

How does it work?

Tape stabilizes the stifle joint and supports muscle function, improving movement and comfort.
