Laminitis & Hoof Issues Protocol

What This Protocol Covers

Looking for laminitis treatment, pain relief, or management advice for your horse? This protocol includes everything you need to support hoof health and recovery using trusted EquiTecs methods.

  • Step-by-step laminitis support: Proven EquiTecs applications to help manage laminitis in horses
  • Navicular and foot abscess solutions: Taping techniques for pain relief, improved blood flow, and hoof stability
  • Chronic hoof care: Ongoing strategies for horses with recurring hoof problems
  • Best practices for managing laminitis: Dietary tips, hoof care advice, and when to seek veterinary help

Protocol:

Begin with the Basics Course to learn proper tape handling, stretch, and technique. Use the Circulation, Coronary Band, and the Lower Leg Injuries application (Applications Library) for both the affected leg/legs and the off-leg. For acute or severe hoof issues (Navicular, Abscess), apply both the Coronary Band and the Circulation applications (Applications Library) for comprehensive pain and swelling reduction. Use the Lower Leg Injuries application on the off-leg to help comfort compensatory pain.

When to Use:

For horses diagnosed with laminitis, navicular syndrome, foot abscess, or other significant hoof issues (we always recommend veterinary assessment for confirmed diagnosis)

How Long to Tape:

  • Continue use until the hoof issue is resolved or the flare-up has subsided.
  • Redo the applications when the tape loses its recoil, becomes loose, or collects debris underneath.

For Chronic Cases:

For ongoing hoof conditions, it is recommended to use the coronary band portion in the Circulation application and the Lower Leg Injuries application continuously during flare-ups and throughout the recovery period. Reapply as needed, and coordinate with your veterinarian and farrier for ongoing hoof care.

Laminitis Management Note:

Strictly manage diet and turnout for horses with hoof problems. Avoid lush pasture, any type of sugar, and abrupt dietary changes. Provide deep bedding and regular hoof care. Work closely with your veterinarian and farrier for best results.

Clinical Reasoning:

This protocol supports increased blood flow to the hoof, reduces inflammation, and helps relieve pain. The Circulation application and coronary band application support hoof capsule stability and encourage healthy tissue growth, while the Lower Leg Injuries application reduces strain on affected structures and supports overall limb biomechanics. The Circulation application further enhances blood flow and tissue recovery in severe cases.
