EFT Back Support & Decompression

Back support + decompression is our primary biomechanics taping application for horses with kissing spines and back injuries. It’s the go-to protocol when a horse has had an accident, a fall, or a back strain and can’t comfortably organize the topline under load. This application uses EquiTecs 4‑Way Stretch Tape for structural support, and also teaches a decompression/relaxation variation (when that’s what your horse needs) that combines 4‑way support + 2‑way muscle work on the back muscles—so you match tape behavior to the real problem, not a generic pattern.

54-Minute Digital Course — Lifetime Access via EquiTecs App

  • What it is: Step-by-step protocol for back support, decompression, and stabilization—ideal for trauma, kissing spines, and post-chiropractic care.
  • What you get: Instant, on-demand video instruction + application demo.
  • How it works: Apply EquiTecs 4-way tape (up to 50% stretch) or 2-way tape (10% stretch for muscle relaxation), with horse’s head down, follow clinical guidelines.
  • Access: Anytime, on any device. Lifetime included.

EquiTecs EFT Back Support & Decompression digital course demonstrating thoracic lumbar functional taping for horse back injury rehab kissing spine support and instability patterns.

What You'll Learn:

  • When and why to use decompression vs. support taping for the back
  • Tape selection and application for trauma, kissing spines, and post-chiropractic care
  • How to maximize healing, comfort, and muscle memory
  • Key markers of success and troubleshooting tips

What this back support + decompression application does (and doesn’t do)

  • Does: Provide a step-by-step back support plan designed for stability under real movement and load.
  • Does: Provide a clear plan for back injury patterns, including cases commonly described as kissing spines (topline pain/guarding and instability patterns).
  • Does: Teach when to use support vs decompression after an accident/injury so you’re not guessing during a sensitive phase.
  • Does: Teach a second option: decompression/relaxation when the back is guarding and needs muscle/tissue change—not just support.
  • Does: Teach safe stretch limits, anchor rules, and placement logic so outcomes are reproducible.
  • Doesn’t: Replace diagnosis for unresolved back pain, neurologic deficits, or cases needing imaging.
  • Doesn’t: Happen overnight. Horses can make fast biomechanical changes, but meaningful, lasting change takes time and consistent application/reassessment.

What you need (the correct tool matters)

Who this is for

For horse owners and professionals dealing with kissing spine patterns, post-accident back pain, and injury-driven topline guarding—especially when you need a protocol that can provide support, decompression, or a smart combination depending on what the horse is doing that day.

  • Kissing spine patterns (commonly diagnosed or strongly suspected)
  • Post-fall / accident / back strain cases
  • Horses that brace through the topline and can’t hold posture comfortably
  • Rehab + return-to-work phases where stability matters

Application: What & Why (Back Support & Decompression)

  • What: Targets the thoracic and lumbar spine for support, stability, and decompression to relieve pain, promote healing, and improve posture/movement
  • Why: Decompression taping relieves pain and swelling after trauma or kissing spines; support taping helps maintain alignment and develop muscle memory after injury or chiropractic work

Unique Clinical Notes

  • Longevity: For muscle memory, tape for 6–12 weeks; after back injury, 12 weeks
  • Most common mistakes: overstretching, improper alignment, not addressing outside causes (saddle fit, training, feeding)
  • Back soreness often linked to weak core or compensatory pain from hocks/stifles
  • Allow tape ends to fully recoil before placing (for decompression)
  • Invest in full-body conditioning for lasting results

Markers of Success

  • Immediate pain relief and relaxation (yawning, licking, chewing)
  • Improved posture and smoother movement
  • Less defensiveness and resistance
  • Tape stays secure (no bunching or peeling)

FAQ

Is this for kissing spines?

Yes—this is our primary application for kissing spines. Vets may use different terminology depending on what they see on imaging. In many cases the vertebrae are not yet touching or fused—and that’s where rehab, taping, and lifestyle changes can be truly life-changing for your horse’s comfort and posture. If the vertebrae are touching and fused, the only true “fix” for the fusion itself is surgery. In those cases, this application can still help by reducing pain and supporting posture, and it’s also a powerful tool post‑surgically to support rehab and help the horse rebuild better movement patterns.

Do I need 4‑way tape for back support?

Yes. Structural support is a biomechanics goal, and 4‑way multidirectional stretch is engineered for predictable behavior under load.

When do I use decompression/relaxation instead of support?

Use decompression/relaxation when the primary problem is restriction and guarding—especially in kissing spine patterns, where the goal is to help the back muscles get longer and looser so the horse can create more space and move without bracing through the spinous processes.Use support when the primary problem is instability under load—common in trauma/injury cases and athletes/performance horses where the back needs a mechanical bridge to stay organized during movement.
Guarding/restriction = decompression. Instability/load = support.

Is this safe?

Yes—safety is one of the reasons this modality exists. Use the correct tape type for the goal (4‑way for support; 2‑way for muscle work), follow stretch limits and anchor rules, and don’t improvise.

How long should back tape stay on?

Follow the protocol taught in the application. Wear time depends on workload, conditions, and how the tape edges and recoil are holding.

How do I access?

Instantly via the EquiTecs App on any device. Lifetime access included.

How does it work?

Tape supports, stabilizes, and decompresses the back, improving comfort and movement.
